RPTA is pleased to offer special interest small group camps for children with special needs. Families can choose a camp that matches the interests and desired target skills to address. These camps will be organized into small groups (4-5 campers in each group.) All camps are designed to provide opportunities to further develop social and sensory motor skills required for successful group interaction within a special interest theme. Each camp includes a final project and activity. An occupational therapist and a trained assistant will facilitate each camp. Performing with Friends Interests: Drama, Theatre Target skills: social skills through group activities; sensory-motor through movement/motor planning; creative problem solving through costume and prop construction Final performance: Theatre performance with group Session 1: Weekly on THURS, Jun 12 – July 17th $395 Session 2: August 4th-8th / 2-4pm $350 Cooking with Friends Interests: Cooking/Food/Culture Target skills: social skills through group/team building, turn-taking, problem-solving; sensory-motor through working with ingredients and tools, motor planning/sequencing with following multiple steps; fine motor through writing, drawing, tool use Final project: Recipe book produced by campers Session 1: Weekly on TUES, Jun 10 – July 15th $395 Session 2: July 21-25th / 2-4pm $350 Moving with Friends Interests: Moving, Active Play Target skills: social/play skills through reciprocal interaction; sensory-motor through movement, motor planning, tactile; motor skills through equipment use, upper body and core strengthening Final project: Movement carnival party incorporating all skills/type of sensory motor incorporated throughout each day. Session 1: Weekly on WEDS, Jun 11 – July 16th $395 Session 2: July 28 - Aug 1 / 2-4pm $350 Writing through Sensory Exploration Interests: Developing motivation and confidence in writing Target skills: social skills through small group interaction during sensory based activities; writing skills will be explored through different sensory systems – tactile, proprioceptive, movement (vestibular) and motor planning, visual and auditory What to expect: Campers will participate in a variety of sensory-based activities encouraging development of skills required for writing including correct letter formation, spatial awareness / organization, visual memory, grasp, hand strengthening and bilateral coordination. Campers will participate in writing activities/ projects according to age and skill. Parents will be provided with information of sensory systems and how they are involved with writing and given activity ideas for continuation at home. (Cost $495 per camp) Session 1: July 21 - 25 (9am - noon) / Ages 6-8yrs Session 2: July 28 - August 1 (9am - noon) / Ages 8-10yrs Session 3: August 4 - 8 (9am - noon) / Ages 10-12yrs Teen Project Adventure Designed for individuals ages 11-15 Participants will have opportunity to practice positive interactions and cooperation with others as a team in developing and completing a group project. Participants will experience team-building challenges requiring communication, problem solving, and motor planning. Participants will determine a common interest, develop a plan, and create a group project with therapist facilitation. Meeting place will start at Redwood Pediatric Therapy but participants will have opportunity to meet out in community for group project idea. Families must provide transportation to decided destinations.
