When are you open?
Our office is open Monday thru Friday, 8:30-5:00. Each therapist maintains a different schedule; many work in the schools in the morning and in the clinic in the afternoon. Afternoons are the most popular time for appointments for school aged children. We prefer to schedule infants and toddlers in the morning whenever possible.
What is the length of an appointment session?
Appointments typically start on the hour and are 50 minutes long. Therapists need 10 minutes after each appointment to clean up, document, and prepare for the next appointment. If you need additional time to talk with your therapist, please arrange to email, or in some cases, schedule additional consultation time.
What should children wear to the appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing, that is neither too loose nor tight, appropriate for movement. Layers are advised, as rooms can vary from cool (from air conditioning) to warm (with physical activity). Socks, for child and adult, are needed for playing on our gym mats. Messy play with art supplies or food is often part of treatment; please wear "play" clothing.
Do I need to stay for the appointment?
This is ultimately dependent on what is best for your child and the comfort level of both parent and child. Caregivers of children under the age of 3 are always asked to be present. Parents of older children are also often encouraged to attend, in order to provide updates and feedback, to collaborate with the therapist on home strategies, to participate in the session, and to encourage and support their child. Of course, there are times when a child is working on independence and may feel empowered to enter the clinic space as a 'kids only' zone. In this case, please stay near the building (within 10 minute drive), and leave a cell phone number.
What if I have concerns regarding my child's therapy?
We encourage you to communicate your concerns and questions to the treating therapist. If this is uncomfortable, or you have additional questions and concerns, please feel free to contact the clinic supervisor: Justine Alcocer, OTR/L at [email protected] or (707) 546-9160 x103.
